Definition
Anthesis is the first opening of a flower during process of flowering. It is the period when a flower becomes sexually functional. It means anthesis facilitates the pollination by opening of flower.
Flowers, whose anthesis takes place during the day, are generally brightly colored in order to attract diurnal insects, e.g. butterflies.
Flowers, with anthesis takes place during night are white or less colorful, and as a result they contrast more strongly with the night. These flowers typically attract nocturnal insects, e.g. moth species.
